Well..
I do know that you can download whole dvds from the internet. Sometimes they create an ISO image and sometimes they just upload the video_ts folder. And yes, they are 4.5 gig files. Some movies have to be downsampled to fit on a 4.5G dvd, but there is plenty of free software for that. Or they just remove the extras. It is not difficult to do.

The same with DVDs that have been converted to other formats like svcd or avi. Heck, I have seen movies out the day they are in the theater. Or copies of the dvd before they are released in stores.
