FACT: In OZ, no firearms DOES = lower gun crime!
Please, please, please do some research BEFORE making misleading or fanciful assertions. I do not know what happened to the RATE of gun crimes in England but I DO KNOW that in Australia, the rate has dramatically decreased since laws were introduced virtually banning gun ownership.

Unlike in the USA (I imagine), gun crimes are considered extraordinary in Australia. Let's not be mislead by the choice of words used by "Spoon Jabber". An increase in gun crime is not as significant or relevant as a decrease in the RATE. In fact, there have been years where the number of gun crimes were actually less than the preceding year.

Also, the analogy used of licensed drivers fails to account for the number of lives saved by those who would otherwise have injured someone because they were incompetent. The reality is that licensing REDUCES (not eliminates) the number of incidents relating to these people.

The argument that a criminal would otherwise refrain from commiting a crime with the knowledge that the victim(s) may be armed is spurious. It certainly isn't stopping the thousands being commited now in the USA!

Strict licensing (like in Australia) also prevents tragedies like accidental shootings in the home and mass murders in malls and schools by kids "borrowing" the weapons from their parents.

Please note however, that I do accept that many criminals have no intent of ever giving up their guns. In those instances, I believe the laws should treat all crimes conducted with the use of a firearm (used or not) as having the intent of homicide.

Finally, in Australia their has never been a constitutional right to arms. However, I find it simply amazing how this privilege is touted by many in the USA as tantamount to a GOD given right. Still, one reaps what they sow!

Where I live, as a lawful citizen I must "suffer the ignominity" of not owning a gun to shoot or admire. I do however enjoy one of the lowest gun crime rates in society AND without fear of said crimes.

Whilst you enjoy your right to own a gun, what are
you prepared to suffer in return?

Please feel free to continue pitying our lack of freedom.
