If you truly believe that ...
... then you've never done any administration work, or used any other platform other than Microsoft.

Microsoft survives because (1) they were at the right place at the right time, and managed to get into desktops, office apps, servers, internet (although they almost missed that one), etc. all together, (2) early successes lead to them having the resources to purchase smaller companies with quality apps, (3) with their fingers in so many areas, they focus on integrating ALL of it.

The focus is on integration ... and since they own so much, it's a very powerful thing.
