IBM pushes linux because it offers greater consulting revenue than MS. That is the bottom line. Eventhough IBM appears to push linux they really are pushing its on-demand stragedy using linux because they dont have to pay MS. Let me give u some numbers Global services in 2002 accounted for 45% of IBM's total revenue and in 2003 48%. In Q1 of this year Global services generated 11 billion already. So you see IBM is not concern about linux nor MS they are concern about dominating the Global services using whatever will generate the most revenue whether linux or MS or some other product. Linux right now is the flavor of the month(year) and if something was to come along better than linux and it was free IBM would push that too.
