long term view
Your point is valid to an extent, but the reality is there are many businesses looking for a long-term solution to Microsoft's treadmill. Sure, there are many companies that are not seriously considering a move to Linux, just using it as a club to whack down Microsoft's licensing costs.

But in the long view, what is your ultimate goal? To have this problem with Microsoft continually reoccur? Or is the long view to eliminate the issue altogether?
