Good to see MS joining in myth-busting: Finally. After that "Get the facts" fiasco, to have the company publicly about face and participate in dispelling the counter-productive myths is good news indeed.

Here is some existing literature on the myths

The most eggregious of those myths was this supposed Lower TCO with Windows servers. Microsoft's captive 'studies' depended upon unnecessary and misleading assumptions, such as assuming an equal number of administrators for Linux and Windows.

As one whose acquisitions have gained us Windows experience in a wide variety of applications, and we continue to monitor the latest offerings in the lab, the measured difference is very significant. Roughly the same four to one advantage as reported here.

The Windows technicians, however, only managed an average of 10 machines each, while Linux or Solaris admins can generally handle several times that.
