No it isn't free.

No, Linux is not free, at least not for businesses. Our own tests conducted over the past four years confirm that is, however, more stable and secure than Windows. It is not burdened by per user licensing fees, and it is easier to maintain.

For our staff, it means the weekends we used to spend patching and rebuilding Windows servers we now spend with our families.

The fact that Linux servers outnumber Windows servers on the Internet shows the ?Windows gets hacked more than Linux because it is a larger target? argument is the myth. Windows gets hacked more because Windows is easier to hack.

No, Linux is not free. But it does have a much lower total cost of ownership.

And as more companies like IBM convert their desktops from Windows to Linux, we will probably learn that Linux on the desktop will have much the same cost advantage.
