"The number of jobs lost is also not a measure of the number of *IT* jobs lost because it doesn't count IT workers who end up cleaning toilets.
Those don't count as job loses at all."

About two months ago I read an article by an economist who suggested that the "real" unemployment rate may be closer to 10% if you take in to account things like under-employment. My wife, for example, was laid off from a retail management position two years ago and hasn't been able to find an equatable position since. As a result, she is now working two part time jobs just to bring in a fraction of her former income. Is she employed? Yes. Is she working in her occupation. No. I myself was laid off about the same time (I work in IT) and after 6 months found "A" job. Between the two of us our yearly income has dropped 50 grand. And we're just two wage earners in a large economy.
