I don't know anyone who's job has been offshored
"everyone i know knows a few people laid off due to offshoring, the list goes on and on.

the current US government is either absolutely moronic, or complete puppets to business.

either way...scary...."

Up until the middle of last year, a lot of my friends were out of work. I was out of work. We were all in the IT field. Thing was, none of us got laid off due to offshoring or domestic outsourcing. We were all at least a bit scared about it though, mainly because we wondered whether IT jobs would ever show up here again, and not somewhere else.

The businesses we were a part of lost funding, and in some cases there was a corresponding dramatic drop-off in demand for the products and services they provided. Essentially, we were all the victims of downsizing. Simple as that.

Today, I don't know a single person, besides myself, who does not have a full-time job, usually in IT, or has found a way to do contracting to make their own way. The job market has finally started to improve, and I see the evidence all around me. Some pickings have come my way, but there hasn't been a good match yet. I am confident that someday I will be working a full-time job in IT again. The jobs recovery has been going on for 9 months. It's got a ways to go before things start feeling normal again.
