- RE: Comcast blocks spam loophole
-
Wow - a lot of confusion in this thread.
Some ISP's completely disable Port 25 so that you can't use an email client such as outlook (or your own nasty varient for spamming). That sucks. I will say that Comcast's approach of letting you use a client to send messages over SMTP is gracious. Further, automatically shutting off that service (i.e. "port 25") is kinda sorta clever.
The problem?? I use Comcast as my ISP BECAUSE they allow me to reach out to my email server at work from home. I can handle it if I get blocked for a day or so (I can use webmail). BUT, I insist on having some method to reenable this!
Example: My wife is member of PTA. Every so often, she sends messages to 50 people at a time. If this were to block our outgoing mail, that's outside of the mission. But, so long as I can reinstate port 25 for my family - it becomes my price to pay for slowing SPAM Zombies as the article called them.
My opinion... Comcast has a reasonable approach to only shut down "offenders." But, I'm going to get very upset if I can't reenable service after a false positive - or after cleaning out malware, etc. - Posted by: connor_k@...
