RE: Comcast blocks spam loophole
Comcast sucks...they're a monopoly and they're constantly charging more for less...their day is coming. First they take away static IPs, then limit uploads, now port 25 is gone and file sharing ports are being slowed, next they'll try to take away all file sharing ports and perhaps xbox ports. I signed up for full Internet access...I didn't sign up for the "whatever crappy limited Internet access that Comcast feels like giving me" plan...and they're not just taking the port from some people anymore they're taking it from everyone...their IT team is just very slow (much like their customer service). Part of their reason for doing this is to keep people from running their own small business email servers so that Comcast can milk another $100/month out of you by forcing people to get their rip off business service. When spammers or spam bots send loads of spam the Comcast mail servers can obtain the IPs of the big offenders and should warn those account holders about spamming, or warn them about a possible virus on their PC, but taking away port 25 is rediculous. Some people need to use other mail servers because of Comcast's email size restrictions and now they're not getting what they paid for.

For anyone trying to run their own email server go to www.no-ip.com and check out their email reflection...for $50/year it will accept mail for you on port 25, filter spam for you and then send it to your server on whatever port you want...for outgoing mail just set the server to use port 587 with your Comcast credentials...then complain to Comcast about their service and try to get a $50 credit by threatening to leave...whatever you do don't get Comcast's business Internet service...just like everything else this monopoly offers it's a ripoff...can't wait for the day when I actually have another option.
