- business is about gambles, not how much money you have
-
Being in business is not unlike gambling.
Gambling does not distinguish between the guy with a lot of money and the guy with few dollars. It treats them the same. They either win or lose.
So if Microsoft doesn't choose the right direction, and they prefer to remain at the betting table...they could lose that $50 billion. In my view, they've opened themselves up to regular, repeated legal action that has no real end in sight. There is no light at the end of that tunnel shining on a sign that says "no more lawsuits for Microsoft"...
They're in trouble with the EU, they're in trouble with the states and it's entirely likely that they'll be in trouble with the U.S. government again. Those are large problems.
The REASON they want to settle all of these lawsuits is because it's not good for investor confidence in the company. People tend to shy away from inordinate amounts of risk and that is more or less measured by the "number" of lawsuits against the company...not counting everything else of course.
If all they have to show is $50 billion, investing in them is little different than investing in an unregulated bank.
Thanks, but no thanks. - Posted by: blahblahblah Posted on: 11/08/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
