Question for the Linux folks here...

.. I have a few days off, a mega-hefty hard drive and lots of interest in trying a new Linux Distro.

I have tried Mandrake... Interesting but nothing out of the ordinary that I can find. SUSE, would like to try. Gentoo - have heard a few things just this week and had not thought about using it.

For a Windows *expert*, Mac relative newbie user, almost complete (based on the distro) Linux newbie, what are your recommendations?

I am a technology lover so new stuff always interests me - what are the relatively tried and accepted Linux distros, and what are the bleeding edge stuff that I will probably find myself asea in?

Just asking as I have some unexpected time off, a machine to install on, and an inquiring mind.
