Reminds me of...
...all the Standard Wisdom about Linux I've been hearing since about 1996 or so:

1997: "Well, it's an interesting hobbyist OS, but nothing will ever become of it. After all, it was developed by a college kid from Finland, for cryin' out loud."

1999: "So what if a million Rotorheads out there have installed it and are developing apps for it with the free programming tools? My company would never seriously consider it..."

2001: "Yeah, so we're migrating a few dozen of our back-end AS/400s and Windows boxes to Linux. What does that prove? It still sucks as a desktop OS."

2003: "I think KDE on Linux stinks because it doesn't have that pretty Fisher-Price interface that XP has. I like huge, colorful icons in bright primary colors. So does my 3-year-old."
