- Apple Is Next To Useless Now - Wrong
-
"When you consider that their laptops still use the G3 and G4 processors, which are way behind the current Intel or AMD Operon, it's pretty sad."
Since when usability is measured by hardware only? Wrong school. Usability is measured by a complete system and G3/G4 performs far better with MacOSX than Windows with its hardware.
"Windows may suck in look and feel compared to OS/X, but when the hardware is so much more expensive, how many people will buy Apple?"
It is the matter who buys them -not how many hassled folks by a local salesman. Your decision is more conscious when not driven by folks that get some sales trtaining while they do not know a bit about what's the purpose of configurations they sell. They live on hype and sell hype. I had a few discussions and the end sometinmes look: "eh... ehhhh... I do not know". This is just like people still believe that more than 300,000 colors thay can see so they buy those 16M colors cards based on the addvertisment it can display that many colors. learn about human limits first and then listen to trained folks that recite memorized text and do not think much.
"They should release their OS for Intel. They would be a much huger company, because finally people would have a viable Windows alternative."
They could but have you considered why? There is G5 now and dual processor configurations with Mac is more usual than with Intel. Have you asked yourself why you can run quite well WindowsXP with Virtual PC on a MacOSX? So perhaps that hardware is not that bad at all. Well at least if anything happens to Windows one can dump it and reinstall.
The price factor comes from the fact that Apple does not have competition in their hardware architecture. However the architecture seems to be better than Intel.
"But, whatever. In the meantime, 97% of people will still buy Windows PCs, and Microsoft will still dominate."
Yes that's true, but who said that crowd is smart?
It is hjust enough to fool people once or twice and then it works like waterfall. Well, that was the case with Windows, wasn't it? It is sometimes incredible that people still cannot learn a lesson or they learn but they still prefer making the same mistake.
I use them both on everyday basis and in network. Actually I use three systems on the same network: MacOSX, Windows, Linux. I have been a user of PC since 1987. Now I am leaving PC arena for PC soon. Windows will run in emulation mode only as soon as firewire is available in Virtual PC. If not then Windows will not run in my house at all.
