Don't let the fact that the system where OSS code resides is vulnerable to attack...

Actually, closed and open source code may be found. It's the repository system itself that is open source, not the code stored therein, necessarily.

As for being on the Internet, did you read the article? It's not supposed to be on the internet. It's not designed for it. Not every code repository is on the internet. The repository at my workplace is not. It is accessible only on the LAN. It has been that way for the 3 employers I've had that have code stores/ Even so, despite the fact that "the repositories should be accessible only on private local networks or through VPNs", the makers of this software are going ahead and making it secure for internet anyway.

So, to sum up... It's not supposed to be on the internet. This is extremely well-advertised. They're making it secure for internet use anyway. So, they exceeded the expectation. What's so hard to understand about that?
