More flaws foul security of open-source repository

You are confusing the internet with the world wide web. The world wide web implies anonymous read-only access. You CAN get a secure connection over the internet that prevents read-only access though such means as VPN. So yes, you can have security over the internet, but not the world wide web. I wish, however, ZDNET had posted an actual quote of what the man said, because ZDNET says "The security flaws underscore the advice of CVS Project leaders, who say development teams should not be placing source-code repositories directly on the Internet." but we all know that they themselves use incorrect terminology on a daily basis.

But anyway, though CVS may be flawed (and I offer no excuses there), if you are using CVS over VPN, you'd have to find a security breach over VPN first before you could ever possibly exploit a flaw through CVS.

Now, if people are using CVS over the world wide web aganist the advice of the CVS Project, then shame on them.
