I'm guessing it's a tradeoff
I'm guessing that the compression is not as good if you select the lossless format. You'll only get the "better than JPEG" compression when using the lossy type.

And you really won't notice the larger color depth unless you're using very specialized hardware and software. Your average joe with regular hardware won't know the difference. The larger depth is pretty much for photographers.
