the patent itself needs to reference prior art and differentiate
if you simply ignore how your egg beater is different than the old one you haven't done a proper job of writting the patent.

To be enforcable, a patent has to prove why it is unique and not a restatement of earlier teachings ... otherwise a defense may exist.

Getting the patent is only half the battle. Enforcing it is the part that you need the best lawyers for. Get a cheap IP lawer and file away ... but pay for a good one and they will only let you file for defensable patents becasue their credibility is on the line too!

I've seen plenty of patents which were violated wildly because the inventor lacked the resources to police the usage.

The best example I've seen is the story of TESLA ... poor guy invented most of the technology which brought the world into the twentieth century (AC Synchronous Engine and Generator, bladeless turbines, RADIO, Florescent lights, Geothermal energy, Hydroelectric Energy, Solar Power, Smart Weapons, Particle beam weapons, Wireless transfer of Electrical power anywhere on the Earth, Fax/Video, etc.) but he got cheated out of it by Industrialists and the Government who kept him in near poverty so he could not enforce his patents.

After his death the US Government used his patents as a defense against license fees sought by Marconi because ... well, Marconi dreamed about Radio but TESLA taught the world how to make it work in his detailed notes and patent applications and court documents!

Poor guy, interesting story, proof that gaining a patent is only half the battle! The Industrialists have the money to use patents!
