so we need to put the future of SW development in MS's benovolent hands?
So let us all thank the wise and giving folk at Microsoft, for being willing to go out on a limb, in order to create a better world for us all. Amen.

I for one don't trust MS's benevolence!

I believe they are attempting to compile a list of patents, of dubious quality, to swamp other firms in ridiculous amounts of red tape if MS is sued for patent infringement. Say IBM went after them, they would still need to defend against the double-click and TODO infringement - next it will be a REDMOND PATENT to listen to music while writing code to "get in the zone"!
