Switzerland costs a fortune from a cost of living standpoint. Rents, food, restaurants, entertainment - you name it - ALL cost WAY more than the united states. Likewise, remember that those salary estimates are the Swiss franc value converted to dollars. The dollar is depressed right now. When I first moved to switzerland, they couldn't pay me as much as a made in America because the dollar value converted to a huge number of francs (the dollar was very strong then).

Taxes, though, are very low in Switzerland - around 20%. That's one of the things that attracts so many rich people.

The biggest thing that attracts the rich, though, is the ability to negotiate their tax rates with local governments. This only applies to the astoundingly wealthy, but a saudi sheik can walk up to the local Neuchatel government and say that they will pay 10 million a year for the right to live there. Whether that is a mere 10% of their yearly income doesn't matter. If Neuchatel agrees, that is the tax rate.
