Are you sure you didn't imagine the offer?
If you really did get an offer for $106K, you'd be a pretty big fool not to take it. Although I doubt your story is true.

First of all, homes in my area average over $800K, but that doesn't mean I'm going to move elsewhere.

Second, just because your mortgage is 3 times higher, you're still not throwing your money away because that money is simply converted to equity. It's all still your money and the investment will pay off well in the long run.

Third, if you actually made $106K, you wouldn't care about an extra $150 in utility per month. As for $600/month in parking, even the most expensive places are $400/month and you can usually get some better monthly deals. As for most other things in life such as the cost of a big screen TV or a Car, that is the same all around the world. So if you're only making $8000/year in China, you'll be saving a long time for that TV and you probably will never own a new car as few do in China.

Making double and spending double is always a better deal, because your left overs are double and your networth is double. Your's is a likely story.
