Most of those sales...
...are Vista preloaded on computers sold. PC sales are steadily going up, now the new OS costs over double what it used to, and it will come loaded on all new PCs. Of course there will be an increase in revenue, but how many of those PCs will then be reformatted with XP to improve performance?

Then there's the Vista hype and the preorders, people who bought Vista before they knew the degree to which it impacts the performance and compatibility of their PC.
