Could have put it differently
I could have said that failure to fully support the latest version of Windows 3 years in advance (after all, what are all the unwashed who think "it's just a computer" going to do?) constitutes treason.

Point is, it was MS that decided to change the driver API and break backward compatibility (without making any effort to reject old drivers so that people would actually be informed that their drivers weren't going to work) and they *alone* are responsible for the consequences.
