3rd Parties hindered by Microsoft's Business Model
I view the 3rd party problems as indication that Microsoft still holds on to a business model most 3rd parties view as similar to the model of criminal gang organizations.

This model is called variously "closed door", "closed source", "need to know", "culture of silence", "good fellows", "why do you care as long as you are making money", "monopoly", "European", "monarchy", "in the shareholders best interest", "reasonable men", "you don't want to be a chump", "we set the standards", "defacto stantard", "need to know basis", "sue me", "I will sue you", "genuine advantage" etc.

It is the opposite of "transparent", "American", "open source", "innovative", "cottage industry", "professional development", "entrepreneurial", "open door", "learning environment", "consumer benefit", "employee benefit", "quality", ANSI, ISO, etc.

Specifically, Microsoft continues to make it difficult for 3rd parties by not following industry standards and opening up their source code and of course by behaving like a predator.

The current PC hardware is multi processing and multi core. Third parties are able to take advantage of that on the Linux operating system products but not with Microsoft's because of the business model.

There is another possibility. Perhaps Microsoft management has put aside wrong ways and 3rd parties just wait for users to discover VmWare and Linux virtual machines.
