The 2.6 kernel probably won't matter.
One of the things RedHat does is develop their own custom kernel. They have backported many 2.6 features into the 2.4 kernel. This should be no different. The only problem is how close their next upgrade date is for their commercial customers. If it is too close, they won't make it in time, or if it is too far, people won't see it for a while (6 months?).

Fedora and most user distros will have this within a week to a month.
