..Opening up Java and Solaris might shake Sun's world, but it will eventually sink Microsoft's ship....

Sinking MS is not the primary goal of Sun.
Profits are.

Wishful thinking aside, why should Sun sacrifice themselves in the glorious effort to sink MS?
