Don't be silly
Your example, the exception or the rule?

I don't know the advantages of the spoolers etc you mentioned. No my territory.
Neither is Edlin.
Same for most people.
I do know that I don't have a problem printing.
Have you used Visual Studio.Net or any of its peers in a serious way?
There a lot more to life than spoolers and Edlin.
Get out of the server room once in a while.

Of course MS aren't the only proprietary software company in the world.
The proprietary software in the following fields:
Databases (Oracle, IBM, MS etc)
J2EE platforms (WebLogic, Websphere)
Office suites (MS Office, Corel, StarOffice)
Graphics (Adobe, Quark, Discreet Logic)
Development (Borland, IBM, MS)
etc

In any of these categories can you point me to an OOS project that is superior.

Are you confusing 'protectionism' with 'property rights'?

Thanks.

Joe
