..Sun does not compete with closed standards...

No they'd never try to compete against the likes of MS. Never.

..So for them, this is just to keep people like Micrsoft from ruling the world....

Which may effect MS's bottom line but it won't do anthing positive for SUN's.

..If they open source Java and double the usage..

How's that work?
You can get everything to develop J2EE apps free right now.

..that will be good for them, and of course IBM and HP as well...

And this is something SUN should strive for?
Helping IBM and HP sounds great if the only goal is to get MS. Scott has much more to worry about (takeover).

It might and then again it might not.
Since there is no logical reason to see why, I'll stick with the latter.
