One more Appeals Court.
The decision due in September is from the Court of First Instance, which, as the name implies, is not the end of the legal line in the EU. Another Court of thoughtful, careful, and imposing Judges awaits whichever side considers itself ill-served by the September decision.

When the final decision is issued, you can announce I never thought I'd live to see the day...
And even if that Court so pronounced, Monti will probably be unable to kneel before Steve Ballmer and humbly beg forgiveness for his affronts to Justice and common sense. Monti was always too stiff to bend and by that time he'll probably be inert.

The worst part, even if Microsoft wins, the EC's decrees will have been in force for years. The EC's decisions are implemented as soon as the person in charge decides what s/he wants to do to the EU economy, and those damaged can do nothing about it until the appeals are resolved. Unless the victim is too badly damaged to survive the vindication process.
Microsoft is so successful that it will survive the worst the EC can do, so no relief is possible.

Who knows what the EU economy has lost and will lose from the cumulative effects of Monti's mindless arrogance.

Still, there's consolation. If the appeals process goes on long enough, the sense of outrage against Monti and successors will diminish. And perhaps revulsion will by then have caused a change in the laws which means that nothing like this decision can ever happen again.
