Great Plains
Having worked with Great Plains software prior to
it's purchase by Microsoft, I would hardly call the
product junk ! As a Accounting & Technology Executive, who helped develop the ADP Accounting Module for their Brojerage Division,I believe that any software product has great value, or very little value, by the methodology by which it is employed by
the personnel responsible for implementation of the product within the host organization. If the product, such as Great Plains is deployed by tech
personnel,it will not resonate with the inherent qualities that make Great Plains a superior product. However,if both Accounting personnel and Technology personnel work together to maximize the benefits of Great Plains, then and only then, will you observe the vast potential of this accounting software. Any software product must be fitted and
implemented to address the needs of that unique organization; and the possibility always exists that the personnel selecting the product were not Accounting personnel, who are the ultimate users of any accounting system. As a 10 year user within the Brokerage and Finance world, I have discovered Great Plains to be adaptable, dynamic, and poweful enough to handle complex Operations and Accounting issues that crossed the span of hybrid products,
such as: Forex,GovernmentTrading,Futures,Derivatives,
Equities,Bonds,Options,Muni's,Funds,etc.
Certainly, I can understand that a decision to purchase this product by any company was made without consideration as to it's specific application or possibly made without the influence of it's end users--the Accountants.

Respectfully,

Greg Warren
