No, it is not right that Linux gives better security. This is a myth. Just look at EAL levels. The various distributions of Linux are either as good as or worse than Windows.. The auditing system is not as well developed in linux, the root account is a massive flaw in itself... the list goes on, i've already detailed a load of this in another reply to this topic.

As for big companies not using windows, that is completely wrong. I work for the UK's biggest supermarket, tesco, and we use microsoft technologies. (checkout this link on one of our partners site; http://www.ivisgroup.com/ivis/a/80.html)

Prior to this, i worked with one of the UK's biggest charities, they too used M$ technologies...

Also, as a CISSP, I am also reasonably well qualified to talk about security...


However, i don't personally agree with many of M$ business decisions.. But people let this cloud their opinion of their products, which are actually quite good now.

Heh, even look at using M$'s ISA server as a firewall, it has a higher security rating than cisco's pix firewall.. I havent checked up on why for this one, but i believe its probably relatied to the fact that ISA can operate as an application layer firewall..
