I dont think so...

Hi,

i completely disagree with many if not most of your statements. Whilst, i also am not an MS fanboi.. I have a problem only with their policies not their products.

The security mechanisms within the recent windows implementations are far more indepth than most *nix systems. (RBAC, WindowStations, CAS[.net only], GP, use of kerberos, auditing mechanisms, even an implementation akin to Biba for a form of integrity based MAC - this list could go on for pages).

Windows XP (SP 2) and Server 2003 achieve a rating of EAL 4+ under the Common Criteria, were many *nix systems achieve 2-3. RHEL (redhat enterprise linux), is good, and does also achieve EAL4+. Few operating systems have a higher rating.. a couple of IBM Z-series and a BAE systems OS for military use.

Personally, i hate windows 98, me, 95 and 3.11 .. however, the later incarnations are actually good operating systems..

Also, look at IIS 6, the only commercial web server to have 0 critical security defects.. whereas teh latest version of apache has 3 critical defects..

Also, if you look at the time since vista launched and see which OS had how many vulnerabilities in tah time frame. vista has a fraction of teh nunber of [security] defects since its launch when compared with various *nix distro's in the same time frame, excluding previous defetcts.

*Nix systems are catching up, e.g. TrustedBSD which is trying to implement a full MAC based system and an improved auditing system.. this is great!

But dont know MS's security, its just bad press, the security controls and mechanisms are actually good
