I appreciate your prompt response. Mind you, I'm not trying to stir up some debate about GPL2 vs GPL3.

Can you give us further indepth information? For one, the article says that after some consideration you decided to go with GPL3. Can you give us some reasons for that motivation, and how that improves benefits for the customer?

Also what expectations do you have for distros in terms of making sure they comply with GPL3 Samba licensing? What changes will they need to make versus what they do now?

And also, what exciting things can we expect in the near future under Samba GPLv3. C'mon... give us a little peek. happy

One other thing, on a totaly different vein. I wonder if some of these products, including Samba, should consider including GPL in its name for customer clarity? Should we start referring to products as XYZ 1.0 GPL2 and XYZ 1.5 GPL3? Or leave it to the customer to figure out which license version of the product they're using? Just wondering out loud here...
