MISSING THE POINT
Just as yesterday everyone's missing the point. The only reason to be party to this, or care, was the following which Stephen mentioned today
But a November partnership with Linux seller Novell, under which Microsoft sells certificates entitling customers to Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Server support subscriptions and guarantees it won't sue those customers for patent infringement, brought Microsoft into closer contact with the GPL.

It's not like anyone was ever going to get Microsoft to give away their stuff. This was all about whether or not Microsoft could sue GPL and Linux distributors for those mysterious patent infringements they claim to have hidden away in the huge vault in Redmond.

Patent Law for software is stupid these days you can get a patent for anything and you don't have to even be able to prove it works. But in the end it's the grand fear of Microsoft's layers that matters. It's not like I or anyone with any common sense would really want Microsoft to support my Linux systems.

"Hey, why don't we hire that company that doesn't do Linux to support our servers. I bet all their experience with GUI's and shortcut keys will make them experts at command lines and scripting. I mean it's not like they had to go and write their own versions of all the popular scripting languages only to find out they weren't compatible."

Sorry cynical day in paradise...
