Microsoft Services for UNIX Discussion
Just so we're all clear: Yes -- Microsoft distributes software covered by GPLv2. It's in the Services for UNIX product (e.g. gcc, rcs, etc.). The inclusion is considered aggregation, i.e. nothing else need be published. They do make all the source code changes to any of the GPL covered software available per their obligations under the license.

I know because I put it there so to speak. I was a founder and VP, R+D at Softway Systems -- we made the original Interix product. We were acquired by Microsoft in Sep 1999, and Interix became part of Services for UNIX. The FSF has known about this since we were Softway. They've reviewed everything before and after the Microsoft acquisition.

It has NOTHING to do with GPLv3.
