Solaris has been on x86 for years
over ten years ago Sun made a big move into x86 with Solaris but customers yawned and said "sell us a SPARC and bundle in a Dell to run office and we will be happy, don't lose focus on cheep chit!"

Sun has had Solaris out for alon time on X86, most customers simply prefer to run SOlaris on SPARC because its a better bang for the buck ... but religion stops some from seeing that a "system" can be more than a low cost WINTEL box once its freed from legacy constraints!
