your dismissing the point that Sun made UNIX not UNIX made Sun
Sun is the original commercial UNIX vendor ... sure there was UNIX before Sun but Sun and its team made BSD and later commercialized it. BSD has already been tested in court and it was found that UNIX infringed on BSD rather than BSD stole from UNIX as AT&T claimed. AT&T lost and BSD was declared clean.

Sun did SysV because it was what people said they wanted, they when it was in the market they blaimed Sun for making them move. Sun has always had a superset of the base distribution whether it was BSD or SysV and Sun's value can be moved to LINUX or maybe even Windows (given financial incentive and access to source code ... we can only guess if MS will buy what they think they can steal).

Sun probaly already has pulled out most of the USL stuff, and if it is still there they could always think about replacing it with LINUX code ... heheh!
