Way back when I said MS would cave to MA-ITD...
I predicted they would have to produce marginally functional support for ODF in their products. They will be, albeit through a paid-off third party.

I predicted they would have to standardize their product before an international organization. They did - ECMA, though not yet ISO.

I predicted Microsoft would have to pull a delaying action in the legislature with any dirty trick they could muster. They could, they would, and they did.

Microsoft caved, right down the line and opened just enough for MA-ITD to list the format. Future customers will pry the door open further and further. Microsoft may not like it, but they are about to see office applications commoditized and the design taken further and further out of their hands.

A mediocre day for Open Standards. A mediocre day for Massachusetts. A sad day for Microsoft. And me? I get to be right and it feels good.

Mind, I wanted Microsoft to stick by their guns and lose MA-ITD as a customer, but I didn't rationally think that was in the cards.
