Once Again, . . .
I find myself agreeing (in part) with Axey, here. MS protocols and Formats have value because the MAJORITY of the world uses them (well, the majority with the money and power to make things happen, anyway). Whether or not they are true standards is besides the point. They are DEFACTO standards, simply because most people use them (No, you and I are NOT most people).

Do I see this staying this way? No.

Do I see RMS's vision coming to pass? NO.

Compatibility is a non-starting issue when you control half the market. . . .
