Misguided
For interoperability bit, Microsoft doesn't have to give up one iota of code. All they need to do is use open, unencumbered formats and properly documented APIs. The community will do all of the work to achieve interoperability.

Interoperability does not "require" a cross license deal. That is an artificial requirement which in MS' case is to be used to serve ulterior motives.

If MS continues to play these games of erecting barriers to interoperability they will eventually enter the realm of irrelevance. FOSS is quickly becoming a complete and superior replacement for MS wares.
