LInux purpose
Well, let's look at that, shall we?
1) Runs 77.8% of the top 500 supercomputers, according to Top 500 Supercomputing site. http://www.top500.org/stats/list/29/osfam
2) I got that figure by "googling" it. Guess which OS that Google uses, right out to their desktops?
3) Of course NASA wouldn't use Linux, would they? Well, to quote www.technetra.com, "Linux and open source software (OSS) are widely used for internal as well as high-visibility external projects at both NASA and ESA"
4) Not a lot of software out there. Only 11,170 different projects on Freshmeat alone, and that's the free stuff. There are also tons of proprietary software for Linux as well - AccPac accounting, for example.
hmmm, I think you need to take a fresh look at your analysis. I think some of your information is significantly out of date.
