Having choices
Very seriously, I sympathize about your condition and what you have to go through with it. Sounds miserable, and the cost of the pharmaceuticals must be one more way to drain you. With no real alternative.
Part of the problem is that insurance pays for many prescriptions. Pharmaceutical companies decide on a price and insurance pays it. Then bills the policy-holders. So people with insurance don't know where their money is going, though they do know how horrendous the premiums are.
Good luck; glad you're still kicking.

As for Linux/Open Sorce. Well it was a formular that with the increadible market power and the tactics of MS in the past that had to come up eventually. MS made a practice of stamping out or buying out of doing any number of things to destroy or steal a companies products. Linux/Open Source is a different animal and something that MS finds itself in essence helpless to destroy. It has not central core, no true owner. No matter what MS does it will continue to exist. MS in many ways brought this onto herself.

As is apparent from the company's financial statements, open source hasn't done much damage to Microsoft yet. But it is being used to kill off proprietary Unixes.
I wish the idealistic volunteers would see that clearly. They may still choose to work to increase IBM's (and HP's) profits and cause layoffs and decrease salaries, but at least they should know exactly what they're doing.
If a proprietary operating system built on Unix had appeared with the same emphasis on user friendliness as Windows, I think that quality product might well have won the competition. Now we'll never know.
