- Why are you so surprised?
-
You did notice all the programmer layoffs at IBM, didn't you?
You needn't have written:
Why don't you contact IBM on my behalf and tell them to keep their recruiters away from our senior level software engineers?
More likely, you can find some high quality people among those IBM dumped.
Admittedly, some of the jobs were sent overseas. But I have to wonder whether the programmers working for lower wages would have been as easy to employ if IBM hadn't standardized on Linux.
You also asked:
Do they trust to luck in meeting the customers' urgent needs to keep IBM products running?
No, of course not. They charge the customers huge amounts of money for support and other services.
The happiest part for IBM is the bait-and-switch. They get all this free work by raising volunteer regiments against Microsoft, then use their army to kill Unix. Must be a lot of otherwise inexplicable giggling in Armonk.
Microsoft is no hero, but I nominate IBM for villain-in-chief. - Posted by: Anton Philidor Posted on: 06/02/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
