We're not talking just "switch to web"
Windows Live isn't about "switching" apps to run via the web browser--for example, the new Windows Live Photo Gallery this article mentions is still a regular Win32 application. The difference in WLPG over Vista's photo gallery is that WLPG has hooks to online services. E.g. upload photos directly to your Windows Live Space. This is the direction Microsoft is going (software+services), not pure web-based.
