I can understand that ...
"IE is the most compatible browser out there. Not using it isn't really an option for most people."

Yeah, for some sites it is required ... so try using it only for those sites. I find that while using a non-IE browser, I can pull up about 97% of websites without a hitch. And for badly written sites that force the user to use IE, I have an extension for Firefox that will let me launch a webpage in IE via a right mouse button menu option.
