There is some truth
There is truth in this report. But like movie trailers, it has to be taken in context. The worst movie can look great with the right trailer. And trailers are tailored to who ever are watching (for example an MTV crowd may see a trailer with more action and sex, but on CNN it may be more about the story). This "trailer" is geared for middle management. I would think a CEO would not accept this report as gospel. But I'm sure some do.

However a trend I see is that those folks are not as forceful in deciding what system they want or need. They are relying much more on their internal staff to make the right decisions. It costs companies a lot of money when decisions are made in a vacuum. There are more CIOs and IT Directors than ever before. That is not because there are more businesses. It is because they need someone that understands technology and business. They recognize they do not have that expertise and just don't have time to be that involved in this aspect anymore (and many have bombed when they forced a decision). They are too busy trying to make the bottom line work.

The report could be somewhat true if the IT shop comprises of inexperienced technical people versus a shop that have a wealth of experience and expertise. Linux shines in shops that have a talented staff. Windows is just another solution for these sites (but costs too much). Windows is the only solution for the inexperienced shops because that is probably the only thing they know. So it makes sense to use Windows.

And one off-the-wall remark. I love the fact that someone in this discussion is trying very hard to rattle cages and be obstinate; but is only being ignored. That how it should be done; respond to points about the article and ignore those that like to hear themselves speak (or see themselves in print).
