I would go further.
I would say there are probably cases where Linux would cost more than Windows. But you are right, when you take into consideration everything (licensing, support, downtime...), in most cases Linux does seem to be cheaper and also better at doing the job.

I say truely, and unbiasly evaluate what you need to get done, see if Linux is an alternative for parts of it if not the whole, and then actually try it out instead of believing one side of the other. Because this is really a case by case type of thing.
