Tim, I know you are being sarcastic with the 'five user' comment, but do be careful that you don't actually start to believe that they are that bad off. All of the evidence that I have seen seems to indicate that they are doing quite well even though they are way down on the list in terms of popularity. I am no happier about this 'GPL sellout' approach than you are, but I think it is better to be realistic about it, and the reality is that most of these companies are likely to be around for a long time into the future. They have very low overhead and with a little help from MS they can last for a long, long time, even with the advent of GPL3. I, personally, think the real loser in the end will be MS, since it is only going to make their inevitable reconciliation with open source more difficult. And they will inevitably have to come to grips with the GPL like IBM has, and trying to wave their largely bogus IP (sudo patent and all the rest) around accompanied by threatening gestures is not going to help that to happen.
