Huge surprise! (not) ...
Linspire has long pursued a 'strictly business' type relationship with MS. The settled the 'Lindows' lawsuit with a recorded gentleman's agreement with MS that gave them access to Microsoft technology. In light of the water under the bridge, the only surprising fact is that it took them this long to extend those previous agreements. Linspire was not really founded as an 'open source' company, but rather as an entrepreneurial business positioned to profit from proprietizing open source software and they have been fairly straight forward about that, while all the time trying to limit the resulting negative fallout on the open source side. And just like those who have gone before they are emphasizing the MS technology they have licensed, while insisting that they are not acknowledging any MS IP claims on Linux, while passively accepting MS's offer of protection. How utterly convenient! One more company signing an agreement with MS while 'agreeing to disagree' on what that agreement means. Businessmen have their own very flexible definition of integrity.
